Shopify Market-Driven Shipping: Keep App Rates Working

Shopify moves shipping into Markets. See which markets miss your app rates and pickup points, and activate ShipDock rates per market in one click.

Shopify Market-Driven Shipping: Keep App Rates Working

Shopify is changing where shipping lives. For years, every store set up shipping in Settings → Shipping and delivery: shipping profiles, zones with countries, and rates inside each zone. With market-driven shipping, that setup moves into Markets. Each market gets its own shipping options, and the zones disappear from the shipping settings.

For most stores the switch is quiet. For stores that use an app to calculate shipping rates in checkout, it needs one extra check. App rates, such as live prices per country or the nearest pickup points shown as shipping options, only appear in a market where the app's shipping option is active. If a market misses it, customers there simply see no rate from the app, and nothing in Shopify warns you.

This guide explains what market-driven shipping is, when your store switches, what it means for carrier-calculated rates and pickup points, and how ShipDock shows you every market that is missing its rates and activates them with one click.

What is market-driven shipping?

Market-driven shipping is Shopify's new way to configure shipping. Instead of shipping profiles and zones, you set up shipping options for each market: a regional market such as "Europe" or "Germany", but also B2B and POS markets. Where you sell and how you ship are managed in one place.

What changes in practice:

  • No zones in Settings → Shipping and delivery. Shipping options are added under Markets → (market) → Shipping.
  • Every market has its own options. A market can also inherit shipping from its parent market. If you click Customize in a child market, it gets its own options.
  • App rates are a shipping option of their own. In Shopify they are added as an option with the rate type Carrier or app calculated. You can turn such an option on or off in a market, but the prices stay in the app.
  • Options are tied to locations. A carrier or app calculated option is offered only for shipments from the locations it is set up for.

When does your store switch?

Shopify published this timeline:

  • From 1 October 2026: merchants can opt in, and new stores use market-driven shipping automatically.
  • October 2026 to July 2027: existing stores are moved over gradually, as their apps become compatible.
  • From 1 July 2027: market-driven shipping is on for all stores, without an opt-out.

How to tell which setup your store has today: open Settings → Shipping and delivery in Shopify. If you see shipping profiles with zones and countries, your store still uses zones. If shipping is managed per market under Markets, your store uses market-driven shipping. In ShipDock, the summary on each courier page shows it too, in the row Shopify shipping: "Delivery profiles (shipping zones)" or "Market-driven shipping (markets)".

Why app shipping rates can disappear

Shopify asks an app for shipping rates only where the app is part of the shipping setup. With zones, that meant adding the app's rate to every zone. With market-driven shipping, it means an active Carrier or app calculated option in every market that should show the rates.

The typical situations where rates go missing:

  • You create a new market, for example for Poland or the Baltic countries, and forget to add the app option.
  • A market with its own shipping (after Customize) does not have the option, even though its parent market does.
  • The option exists, but not for every location. Orders shipped from a new warehouse get no app rate.
  • A market is still a draft. Everything looks fine until it goes live, and then customers there see no app rates.

This matters most when the app provides the rates themselves. In ShipDock that is the case with two rate options:

  • CCS - Dynamic Rates: you set names, descriptions and prices per country in ShipDock, for pickup points and for home delivery, and ShipDock returns them in checkout.
  • CCS - Nearest Pickup Points: ShipDock shows the pickup points closest to the customer's address directly as shipping options in checkout, with your price.

Both need carrier-calculated shipping (CCS) on your Shopify plan, and with market-driven shipping both need the ShipDock option in every market where they should appear. The third option, Manual rates mapping, uses your own Shopify rates and works without CCS.

How ShipDock handles market-driven shipping

ShipDock checks the shipping options of your markets for you. It never changes your market settings on its own. You see what is missing and decide.

The Markets card in Settings

When your store uses market-driven shipping and CCS is active, Settings → General in ShipDock shows a card called Markets. It lists your markets with their countries and a status:

  • Shipdock rates: the option is active, customers in this market see ShipDock rates.
  • No Shipdock rates: the option is missing, but no courier uses CCS for these countries yet.
  • No Shipdock rates · action required: the option is missing and a courier with CCS rates needs it. The card shows which courier, which service (pickup points or home delivery) and which countries.
  • Draft: the market is not live yet. Draft markets are listed too, so they are ready when you publish them.
  • Shipping off in the market: shipping is switched off in that market in Shopify.

Markets that inherit shipping from another market are marked as such, and if the ShipDock option is active only for some of your locations, the card names the missing ones. On top, a summary such as "Shipdock rates active in 3 of 4 markets" tells you at a glance whether anything needs attention. A Refresh button reloads the list after you change something in Shopify.

Activate per market

Click Activate next to a market. A dialog shows why the market needs the ShipDock rates and the locations you ship from. Every active location that fulfils online orders is preselected; untick the ones that do not ship to this market. After you confirm, ShipDock adds the option "Rates provided by the Shipdock app" to the shipping settings of that market in Shopify. You can edit or remove it there later, like any other shipping option.

If the option already exists but some locations are missing, the same dialog adds only the missing locations.

A reminder on the courier page

When you set up a courier with CCS - Dynamic Rates or CCS - Nearest Pickup Points, ShipDock checks the markets that serve the countries you just entered. Under Choose integration it lists the markets that still miss the ShipDock option, with Activate for each one and Skip if you want to do it later. The check uses the countries from the form, so you can set up the rates before you switch the courier on.

Manual rates mapping on markets

With Manual rates mapping, ShipDock reads the names of your Shopify shipping options so you can assign them to a courier. On stores with market-driven shipping, the names and their countries come from your markets.

Stores that still use shipping zones

Until your store switches, nothing changes in how you work. ShipDock helps here as well:

  • When you save a courier with CCS countries, ShipDock adds "Shipdock - Shipping rates" to the Shopify shipping zones that cover those countries.
  • The card Shipping zones in Settings → General lists your zones with their status. A zone without ShipDock rates gets Add rates, and the card shows which courier needs it. Once every zone is set, the list collapses.

When Shopify moves your store to markets, ShipDock switches to the Markets card by itself. The zones card is not shown on market-driven stores, because the zones no longer decide what checkout shows.

Step by step: set up ShipDock rates with market-driven shipping

  1. Check CCS. In ShipDock, open Settings → General. The card Status in Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) must say "CCS feature on your store is enabled and active". If not, ask Shopify support to enable carrier-calculated shipping for your plan, then click Reactive.
  2. Set up the courier. Open the courier in ShipDock, choose CCS - Dynamic Rates or CCS - Nearest Pickup Points on the Pickup points or Home delivery tab, add your countries and prices and save.
  3. Activate the markets. In the banner under Choose integration, or in the Markets card in Settings, click Activate for each market marked "action required". Check the locations and confirm.
  4. Check the result. The summary should read "Every market offers Shipdock rates", or at least every market you sell to with CCS couriers. Test checkout with an address in each market.
  5. Keep it in mind for new markets. When you add a market or a warehouse later, open the Markets card again or click Refresh.

Prefer to do it in Shopify yourself? Go to Markets, open the market, click Shipping → Add shipping option, choose the rate type Carrier or app calculated and select Shipdock - Shipping rates. Leave the handling fee empty: Shopify would add it on top of the price you set in ShipDock.

Couriers you can use with CCS rates

CCS - Dynamic Rates work with the couriers you connect in ShipDock, and CCS - Nearest Pickup Points with those that have pickup points. Popular choices for European stores:

  • Packeta (Zásilkovna), with its own pickup points and Z-Boxes and partner networks across Europe
  • PPL, DPD and GLS with their ParcelShops and pickup points
  • InPost and ORLEN Paczka in Poland
  • Foxpost and Magyar Posta in Hungary
  • Balíkovna and Česká pošta in the Czech Republic
  • BoxNow, Econt, Omniva, PostNord and Posti in other markets

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to do anything before my store switches?

No. As long as your store uses shipping zones, your current setup keeps working. When Shopify moves your store, open the Markets card in ShipDock and activate the rates where they are missing.

Does ShipDock change my markets automatically?

No. A shipping option in a market is a visible change of your store settings, so ShipDock only adds it after you click Activate. On stores with zones, ShipDock still adds its rates to the zones of your CCS countries when you save a courier.

Can I change ShipDock's prices in Shopify?

No. In the market you can only turn the ShipDock option on or off. Names, prices and pricing rules stay in ShipDock, per courier and country.

Why are the rates higher than what I set in ShipDock?

Check the handling fee on the ShipDock option in the market. Shopify adds it on top of the price returned by ShipDock.

What about draft markets?

ShipDock lists them with a Draft badge. You can activate the rates before the market goes live, so customers there see them from day one.

Do I need CCS for pickup points?

Only if ShipDock provides the rates. With Manual rates mapping, you create the rates in Shopify yourself and the pickup point widget lets the customer choose a point. CCS is needed for CCS - Dynamic Rates and CCS - Nearest Pickup Points.
